Cooper Is a Little Boy

WARNING: Many spoilers ahead for Twin Peaks seasons 1 to 3.

The last episode of Twin Peaks is simultaneously my most hated and most liked finale of anything. Somehow this applies to all of the finales of Twin Peaks from season 1 to 3.

The way that Cooper got up from the bed, didn't look at anybody, said “I have to brush my teeth”, went straight to the bathroom and then squeezed out the toothpaste. It reminded me of the mannerisms of little boys that I'd babysat before. They look like they're not aware of what's going on but totally determined to do the bad thing anyway. Like Cooper, just had to squeeze out that toothpaste. Why? Why not! It's like something inside propelled him to do it. He knew it was bad, and that's precisely why he's doing it. In the context of the show, it's Bob, the evil entity, that's egging him on. In real life, who knows what's egging them on? The difference is that, little kids are cute, but Cooper is not cute right now. Well you know what, some might argue that he is. Because he's innocent. Though I don't think innocence is always good, or cute.

Sometimes innocence can be used to do bad things. Someone could be innocent and bad, and it makes them extra bad. Like bad Cooper. In some ways, I think bad Cooper is just as innocent as Dougie Jones. Except Dougie picks up on nothing but goodness from people, and bad Cooper seems to only tolerate evil. They both don't have the more complex human emotions behind them. But just what IS innocence really? And what is cute? I feel like Log lady would ask these questions. I wish I had access to her log. Maybe I should go pick up some logs come fall.
